Bhala Keyboard
Keyboard Privacy Policy
Effective October 2026 · Applies to the Bhala Keyboard Android app (org.bhala.keyboard)
The short version
- What you type stays on your phone. We never receive it.
- Voice typing and voice notes are turned into text on your phone. The audio is never uploaded.
- No account, no ads, and no analytics or tracking SDKs.
- A few features use the internet: GIF search and downloads. This page says exactly what each one sends.
1. Who we are
Bhala Keyboard is made by Bhala AI ("we", "us"). This policy covers only the keyboard app. Our website, APIs and developer console are covered by the Bhala AI Privacy Policy.
2. What stays on your phone
These features run entirely on your phone. None of what they handle is sent to us or to anyone else:
- Typing: keys, word suggestions, corrections and the words Bhala learns from you.
- Clipboard: clipboard history, if you turn it on, and the actions on copied text (such as saving a contact or sending money). Those actions open another app on your phone, and you finish there.
- Voice typing: while the voice bar is listening, the microphone audio is turned into text on your phone. The audio isn't saved or sent.
- Voice notes: when you share a voice note to Bhala, it's read on your phone. Bhala keeps a temporary copy only while the page is open and deletes it afterwards.
- Sticker maker: the photo you pick is cut out and turned into a sticker on your phone. Your stickers are saved on your phone. If you add a pack to a chat app, that app receives the pack.
- Ask Bhala: requests are handled by a model on your phone.
- Settings, themes and the personal dictionary.
3. Features that use the internet
Typing and voice work without the internet. These features connect only when you use them:
| GIF search | The words you search for and your phone's language setting go to Bhala's server, which fetches results from our GIF partner, KLIPY, under an anonymous ID. We don't store your searches. The GIF images then load straight from KLIPY's servers, which see your phone's IP address, as any website would. |
|---|---|
| Downloads | Voice models, dictionaries and language packs come from Bhala's servers. Ask Bhala's on-device model comes from Hugging Face. Only an ordinary download request (your IP address and the file asked for) is sent. |
| Photo cut-out | The sticker maker uses Google's ML Kit, which runs on your phone through Google Play services. Your photo isn't sent to us. Google may collect basic device and usage information about ML Kit under its own terms. |
| Links you tap | Opening a link, such as the Play Store page or a chat app, hands you to that app or website under its own policy. |
4. Permissions
| Input method | Lets Bhala work as your keyboard, which every keyboard needs. |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Voice typing, only while the voice bar is listening. Android asks you first, and you can turn it off in Settings. |
| Photos (optional) | Choosing photos for stickers. Without it, Bhala uses Android's photo picker, which shows only the photos you pick. |
| Internet and network state | The features in section 3, and checking whether you're online. |
| Set alarm | Lets Ask Bhala hand a reminder to your clock app. |
| Vibration | Key-press feedback, if you turn it on. |
5. Backups
If Android backup is on, your settings, themes and personal dictionary can be included in your phone's backup to your Google account. Clipboard history is never included. You can turn backup off in Android's settings.
6. What we don't do
- We don't collect what you type, or your voice, contacts, messages or photos.
- We don't use advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs, or advertising IDs.
- We don't sell or share personal information.
- We don't need you to create an account.
7. Children
Bhala Keyboard is meant for people aged 13 and older. It doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
8. Your choices
You can turn off voice typing, GIFs, Ask Bhala and backup at any time. Uninstalling Bhala removes everything it stored on your phone. Because we hold no personal data from the keyboard, there's nothing on our servers to access or delete. If you have a question, write to us.
9. Changes
If we change how the keyboard handles data, for example by adding a feature that works online, we'll update this page and its effective date before the change reaches the app.
